Abstract: An energy saving grate system installed outside a building or structure in warm weather that reduces heating due to infrared radiation (IR) from sunlight. For a window application the grate acts as a sunshade to block or diffuse the IR and ultraviolet (UV) portions of sunlight while passing visible light. The grate cell size, depth, cell surface characteristics, and mounting details near the sash determine system performance of sunlight control, of the view through the grate, and of the exterior appearance. The grate is removable for cool weather. The grate system can cool various surfaces and requires no operating adjustments. It can be applied near most windows (including skylights) on all sides of a building where impinging sunlight causes unwanted heating. A plurality of panel assemblies (46) are in sliding engagement with the upper and lower tracks (28, 30) for covering the opening (22) and each comprises upper and lower rails (52, 54) and a pair of stiles (56) extending therebetween and a panel (58). The panel (58) defines a retention portion (66) disposed along side edges (64) extending outwardly from a plane (68) of the panel (58). Each of the stiles (56) define a stile channel (72) having a configuration corresponding to the retention portion (66) to create an interference fit between the stile channel (72) and the panel (58) for allowing movement when the panel (58) flexes.

  • Patent number: 7150126
Abstract: Upper and lower window track strips each define an elongate panel receptacle of generally rectangular configuration for receiving an edge portion of a structural panel in tight fitting serration retained relation therein. The upper and lower window track strips define wall structures forming a pair of upper and lower window guide tracks, respectively, thereby allowing a pair of window panes to be moved in sliding fashion between the upper and lower guide tracks to open or close the windows. The upper window guide tracks are deeper than the lower window guide tracks to permit the window panes to be moved upwardly and laterally for removal. Rainwater collected within the lower guide tracks drains at the ends of the lower guide tracks or via drain holes therein. The lower window track strip is provided with a resilient cushion strip to protect objects such as guns, camera lenses and the like that contact the lower window track strip.

  • Patent number: 7104015
Abstract: A window assembly (10) with its glazing frame that stays independently from lateral movement of building main structure (44) is disclosed. The window assembly (10) includes an outer retaining frame (12) and an inner glazing frame (14). The outer retaining frame (12) is attached to the building main structure(44). The glazing frame holds glass pane (20), and sits inside the outer retaining frame (12). Between the outer retaining frame (12) and the inner glazing frame (12) is a predetermined clearance space (X) and (Y), at their vertical edges and their top edge. The resulting window assembly allows the glazing frame to retain its shape, while the outer retaining frame (12) moves laterally with the main structure (44) during an earthquake or blast, thereby minimizing the chance of glass breakage. Application of glazing gasket (32) or sealant (54) provides watertight result to the window assembly (10).
