  • Patent number: 7628835
Abstract: In a fastening portion for fastening an upper retaining portion and a lower retaining portion by means of a mounting screw, the upper retaining portion has a screw hole and a cylindrical guide formed around and above the screw hole. Further, a projection is formed on the inner wall of the cylindrical guide at an upper portion thereof. In a loosened condition of the mounting screw where it is disengaged from a screw hole, the head portion of the mounting screw is caught to be retained by the projection. The upper portion of the cylindrical guide is tapered so that it has an inner diameter smaller than the diameter of the head portion of the mounting screw. Accordingly, even when the upper retaining portion is turned upside down in the loosened condition of the mounting screw, the mounting screw does not fall down from the upper retaining portion.

  • Patent number: 7547051
Abstract: A locking system for closing and locking a lid on an enclosure such as a grade level enclosure. The locking system includes a latch formed on an edge of a lid of the enclosure. The latch includes a bolt recess on an upper face of the lid which opens into a slotted wall structure that forms a passage below the lid. The bolt recess has a slotted opening which receives an L-bolt that extends down into a hollow interior of the slotted wall structure. A right angle leg on the L-bolt protrudes below the slotted wall structure when a fastener head atop the L-bolt rests in the bolt recess. The fastener head of the bolt in its at-rest position in the bolt recess provides access for rotating the L-bolt (and its right angle leg) with a tool that fits into the bolt recess to engage the fastener head. The bottom leg of the L-bolt, when rotated to its locked position, protrudes under a locking surface inside the enclosure. This releasably locks the lid to the enclosure.

  • Patent number: 6311367
Abstract: A door support for holding open a door equipped with a hydraulic-type closure having a pair of closure arms and a hydraulic element comprises first and second channel members, each having a top side, a hinged wall and latching wall, with both walls spaced apart and extending perpendicular from the top side, forming a generally rectangular configuration. A hinge, which is fixedly attached to the hinged walls of the first and second channel members, permits rotation of the channel members about the longitudinal axis thereof for alignment of the channel members with that of the selective positioning of the closure arms. An elongate, flexible band, having a latching end and a secured end, and a bolt or cylindrical, elongate pin positioned through the apertures of the latching end and latching wall of the second channel member secures or locks the channel members in a stationary position to prevent lateral movement of the closure arms.

  • Patent number: 5704664
Abstract: The device is used for security by e.g the occupier of a hotel room. A toggle-type self-gripping mechanism is provided with thin jaw-blades. The blades are entered into the slot or gap between a door and a door jamb. The jaws engage the door-bolt, and the device enables a heavy gripping clamp to be applied to the bolt. The thin jaws do not buckle under the heavy clamping because they are constrained against buckling by the slot. A screw-clamp may be substituted for the toggle-clamp.

Abstract: A locking system comprising a locking fastener having tamper-resistant features, and a special key having a bit at one end for engaging a socket in the head of the locking fastener to rotate the latter. The internal configuration of the socket corresponds to an external configuration of the bit, and the corresponding contour of the socket prevents the fastener from being turned by tools other than the special key. The fastener may have left-handed threads on its shaft and its head may be recessed in a counterbore in a closure part to prevent gripping tools from gripping an external surface of the head. The configurations of both the socket and the key may readily be made by economical metal working techniques.

  • Patent number: 4462624
Abstract: In a first embodiment of the invention there is a substantially annular and flat frame for circumscribing a latch, in a door or the like, by interfitting between the latching edge of the door and the door-way frame. The latch-circumscribing frame has a pair of blades formed thereon on the inner surfaces thereof, and a shank portion in which a sharp-pointed rod is threadedly engaged. An outermost end of the rod has a handle fixed thereon whereby with manipulation of the handle, the sharp point of the rod is forceably torqued into arresting engagement with the latch and, simultaneously, draws the blades into incisive engagement with the latch as well. Both the blades and the point of the rod tenaciously clasp the latch therebetween to prevent unauthorized unlatching of the latch. Accordingly, any standard door latch, or the like, can be effectively dead-bolted.
