Abstract: A multiple pivoted lathe chuck jaw assembly utilizes a plurality of baseplates each having one or more sub-jaws pivotably attached thereto. Each baseplate is configured for attachment to, or is part of, the radially movable elements of a lathe chuck. Further, each baseplate has two pivotably attached sub-jaws. Each sub-jaw has two compression and two expansion workpiece gripping surfaces extending generally outwards from the front face of the baseplate: a first tier compression gripping surface, a second tier compression gripping surface, a first tier expansion gripping surface, and a second tier expansion gripping surface. The gripping surfaces each approximate a curved shape that matches the shape of a circle of a given radius allowing the sub-jaws to pivot and self-align to the workpiece surface for maximum surface contact and gripping force. Force-directed serrations can provide additional holding force toward the face of the chuck.
Abstract: Provided is a method of manufacturing a variator component comprising a step of performing, on a variator component workpiece, pre-machining of a power transmission surface and spline holes while leaving machining allowance, a step of performing workpiece thermal hardening, a step of performing finish-machining of multiple spline grooves constituting the workpiece spline holes, a step of snugly abutting part of a chuck mounted on a lathe or a grinder into multiple spline grooves and clamping the workpiece coaxially with the rotational axis of the chuck, and a step of performing finish-machining of the power transmission surface of the workpiece using ball spline grooves of the workpiece clamped by the collet chuck as a machining reference.
Abstract: A safe and quick release device for a tool adapter includes a main body and a combination head. The main body has its front end axially bored with a combination groove with an open end. The combination groove has its opposite sides respectively bored with at least one position-limiting hole having its opposite ends respectively and annularly formed with a first position-limiting portion and a second position-limiting portion. A spherical position-limiting member is slidably disposed in the position-limiting hole and restrictedly positioned therein by the first and the second position-limiting portion. Thus, the position-limiting member is ready made, needless to be especially processed, can easily be in stalled for facilitating assembly and disassembly of the combination head, reducing processing cost.
Abstract: A clamping device for fixing a machined part to a processing axis in a machine tool including the processing axis, a clamping head which is rotatable thereabout and with clamping elements floatably arranged thereon.
Abstract: The invention relates to a chuck comprising a chuck casing (3) and jaws (1) moved radially outwardly and having an axially extending clamping face (17) for clamping a workpiece. The jaws (1) are guided in radial guides and are provided with two sloping guideways on an axially slidable clamping piece (4) is guided in such a manner that the jaws (1) are moved radially upon an axial sliding motion of the clamping piece (4). A jaw casing (2) accommodating the radial guides of the jaws (1) is carried for axial movement in the chuck casing (3) and is supported on the chuck casing (3) in the direction of the clamping movement of the clamping piece (4) via an axially resilient spring element (9).
Abstract: A core chuck for a web-winding machine has a drive shaft extending along an axis and having an outer periphery of polygonal shape seen axially and a hub having a central hole with a polygonal shape substantially complementary to the shaft and fittable with limited clearance over the shaft. A plurality of outwardly directed faces on the hub engage respective jaws and are angled such that relative rotation between the hub and the jaws radially displaces the jaws. A retaining screw extending along an axis of rotation of the shaft through the hub has a threaded shank seatable in the shaft and a head engageable axially in one direction with the hub. A cover disk axially fixed on the hub is formed on the axis with a hole of smaller diameter than the head of the screw. The screw head is captured axially between the disk and the hub.
